The new technology of smoke generators based on cold-steam, as installed, for example, in the new model 36431, has led one or the other model railway to consider, that this additional moisture might possibly lead to an increased risk of corrosion. So let us introduce some facts about the room climate.
Depending on the size and the number of inhabitants, an additional quantity of water in the air will be generated in a flat by cooking, showers, dishwashers and the constant moisture release of the inhabitants and plants on average from 10 liters to 30 liters every day! Every human being is exposing to 1 liter to 1.5 liters of water through its sweat glands and its moistened exhaled air to the environment. The low water quantity in the milliliter range, which can be added here by the new smoke generator, is therefore a negligible quantity. Just as little as a hot cup of coffee taken at the model railway system, or even the presence of the operator itself, the corrosion risk is measurably increased, therefore, this new technology will be easily usable. If you want to be safe, you should ensure adequate ventilation in the model railway area. However, this is not necessary because of the new smoke generators, but it removes the increased air humidity from the many other, much more powerful sources and has therefore always been a necessary means for regulating the humidity. Tip: In a model railway room, the humidity should be about 50%.
